Let’s play cosplay?

Have you ever seen « Saint Seya » a.k.a. « Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque » on TV, in movie theaters… and in real life? Are you a manga freak? Here are some reasons why you should get into this fantasy world!

Etymologically, the term « manga » comes from two Chinese ideograms: « man » and « ga ». The association of the two ideograms means « derisory image ». The term was invented in 1814 by a painter. But it is after the Second World War that the manga became popular.

In 1990s Akira became the first mangas released in France. Three years later Dragon Ball was known as the best-selling manga in the world, including seventeen million copies in France. We can also mention series as cult as that Gunnm (Yukito Kishiro), Evangelion (Yoshiyuki Sadamoto), Bastard (Kazushi Hagiwara), and Kenshin (Nobuhiro Watsuki). Therefore France is the second manga consumer!

Nowadays cosplay revolutionized Japan. The cosplay wear fancy dresses inspired by mangas and walk in Japanese streets! There’s also the Kawai style, a girlier trend. In various Japan Expos dedicated to the promotion of the manga culture through books, figurines, anime (screen adaptations of manga), people share their passion for in their favorite manga characters: Satsuki, Mikasa, Naruto, Sangoku, Luffy for example.

We even notice that some mangas are adapted as videogames and some videogames are considered as mangas but they aren’t. It is a pity to confuse any fantasy with this genre. However we’re delighted that mangas are international and not only Japanese so that people read more, dream more and get more self-confidence.

Why don’t you try?
